General

Very tidy and smart looking for an X300 now. Better condition than most X300 at half this mileage. It looks, runs and drives like a 60k example. This is one of the most solid X300 I have seen at any mileage. Nearly all the usual areas that corrode are remarkably solid. There’s only one small corrosion spot on the entire car, that’s left side lower rear arch. As pictured. Front wings, below rear lamps, A posts, sill ends, floors, front and rear screen surrounds, RH side rear arch are all corrosion free. You will struggle to find another as solid as this now these cars are nearly 30 years old.

This car has never been welded before.

Of course I appreciate lots of people only want “Low mileage” cars, due to the idea that excludes them from needing any work.

So this car won’t be for everyone. But for a person who wants to drive and enjoy using a car, this is an ideal example. If you view this car you can immediately see it’s been cherished and well maintained, as they just don’t survive this well otherwise.

 

Mechanical

Always starts on the button,

Runs and drives very well, smooth, with no obvious issues to report. Smooth/ Full power available from 3.2 straight six engine.

Idle speed, oil pressure, engine temperature, charging voltage all correct.

Transmission and driveline is quite and smooth,

Brakes- work well/ stop sharply, no sticking or squeaking. Discs and pads all fine.

Suspension- smooth, no knocking.

Rear Anti-Roll Bar fitted (normally only found on Sport/ XJR/ V12 models).

 

Electrics.

Central locking/ remote fob, all windows, seat movements, heating/ fans, mirror adjustment, all lighting, radio, power aerial, engine cooling fans, boot remote release and manual release buttons all working

Correct full size 019 battery fitted. In working order.

Rear lamps have all their red paint surrounds intact (often they chip off). No cracks.

Climate control LCD is good.

The A/C currently not functioning. Further investigation would be required to see why it’s not currently functioning.

The Clock LCD has failed as usual for these, and will require a new ribbon/ screen if you want it working.

 

Paint-

No lacquer peel, very good overall. It could be improved with a clay bar and machine polish as there are minor marks as always. But it’s shines nicely in the sun, with the metallic sparkle.

Rear bumper and mirror covers have some minor scuffs as usual for painted bumpers.

 

Body- only a few very minor dents present.

Exceptionally solid bodywork.

 

Interior.

Dry, no water leaks or condensation.

Leather is very good generally for one of these. No excessive wear, even on the drivers seat. Some slight damage around the drivers seat switch, I am not sure what’s happened, but it looks like someone tried to remove the seat switch  without knowing what they are doing?

Wood veneers all excellent. No obvious damage.

Headliner pinned (non sun roof). It’s presentable, but ideally could be replaced if required.

Seat belts on good order, including the covers on the buckles.

Carpet. Generally good. A small stained area on the front left carpet.

The previous owner fitted some aftermarket black over matts. They are functional, but not the most aesthetically pleasing. But they are included if wanted.

Air vents- centre dash and left dash require the joining clips replacing. The rest are good.

 

Wheels & Tyres.

Matched set of tyres with 4-5mm tread, but they do have some age related perishing to the rubber. They hold good air pressure/ don’t go down. The wheels are original 16” Dimple wheels, with very good original paint/ not restored.

Space saver spare.

 

Work Completed.

Throttle body & Idle valve cleaned/ checked/ adjusted to achieve a steady engine idle

New Radiator mounting bushes replaced.

Left & Right outer headlamps- Replaced.

Front brakes cleaned/ checked, greased sliders and backs of pads.

Engine Oil & filter replaced . Genuine

Transmission fluid & filter renewed.

Diff oil renewed.

Fluid levels checked and all correct.

Air filter check- good.

Front under tray repaired/ refixed

Front wheel bearings checked/ adjusted and packed with fresh greased.

New upper tensioner o-ring- no chain rattle at start up now,

oil cooler bypass o-rings renewed

Sill end checked/ cleaned up/ painted to protect them.

 

To summarise, this car needs very little really. It can be driven away and enjoyed.

Most of the hard work has been done already.

There’s of course scope for improvement depending how particular the new owner wants to be about cosmetic details. But at this price I think it’s really as good as it gets.
