LDY Savill Grey interior.

Smart and reliable turn key classic, with quite low mileage for these, ready to drive away and enjoy this summer.

This car has been cherished by the past owner who ran the car for 12 years. He’s only sold it due to his advancing years.

Virtually everything on the car works, including ice cold air conditioning.

Cheap car to run on classic car insurance. LPG conversion can potentially offer reduced fuel/ running costs, with prices starting from 67p/L in the Birmingham area. (May be more in other parts of the country).

Being a white classic car it might also suit someone wanting to start a wedding hire business?

Of course the car is not brand new perfect, but it’s priced accordingly. See all details below.

Engine and drive train

Engine starts on the button, is sweet, runs and drives as it should. It gets you to temperature quickly, maintains a steady idle at normal temperature. Runs on LPG or petrol (donut tank in the boot, the normal original fuel tank still present. Multi point LPG system is Zavali branded, with a Stako tank.

No warning lights on the dash,

Good oil pressure.

Correct charging on the electrics.

Transmission is smooth and quiet, no slipping or issues.

Diff is smooth and quit.

Brakes are sharp and work as they should,

Interior

Great condition, almost no wear on the seats, including the drivers seat. Good bolster, really rare for these, see the pics for details.

Wood trim very good again, almost no issues.

Original carpets all present and decent.

All trim and fixings present and correct.

Headlining is pinned up, so it’s not sagging and hardly noticeable, but it would need recovering if you want a perfect headlining.

Paint and body

Generally very smart and presentable.

Gleaming white paintwork, clean and straight body, no dents. Presets extremely well, needs to be seen to be appreciated.

Good straight bumpers, shiny chromes. I believe it’s had brand new chrome pieces in places before.

The car has had paintwork and bodywork in the past like most of these cars. Very few survive with perfect original bodywork and paint.

It’s had work on the sill ends all four corners as much as I can see.

The floors appear to be all original though? No obvious issues noted under the car,

It has been undersealed/ waxoyled a long time an ago, and is still holding up well.

There is some minor bubbling around the body though.

LH lower A post,

small spot near the front screen seal/ on the roof. Rear D posts around the lower trims.

These are all very small bits and it’s hard to avoid them on cars this age.

We would all like to have 100% perfect bodywork on these cars, but so very few of them have that now, and those cars are valued at £10k-£20k. This car is priced far more modestly to take into account the slight cosmetic imperfections.

Anyone who knows XJ40 will recognise this as a relatively solid example. Not perfect of course but certainly one of the better examples.

Stacks and stacks of previous invoices/ history with lot of work done. So it will have had a whole lot more too.

Ways to improve & add value to the car?

Being very picky, as most of the imperfections won’t bother most people I suspect, but in the spirit of transparency.

-Low Screen wash warning lamp bulb not working on dash? (Screen wash reservoir is full and does not leak).

-Patches of corrosion on the boot lid, in the usual place. Could be repaired or a replacement panel sourced. But it’s not really obvious until you get close.

-May need some suspension work/ bushes in time, as there’s an occasional knock at the back end of hitting a speed bump/ pot hole. It’s not there all the time/ only under certain conditions.

-Wheels would benefit from refinishing. Not damaged, but the clear coat is letting go in places, as usual for Diamond Turned alloys.

-Headlining pinned up/ so it’s not hanging down. But could be recovered.

-Exhaust has a minor blow. In centre. In under the heat shield, so I can’t see exactly where it is. It can’t be big as it’s not very load, and quietens down as the engine/ exhaust warms up too. Not big enough to be an MOT issue.

-Side rubbing strips could do with fresh chrome tape as usual for this part (all of them I have seen need redoing). Under £10 a roll to fix.
